The Editors of Optics Letters, which is published by the Optical Society of America (OSA), have highlighted the recent publication of Hinnerk Schulz-Hildebrandt "High-speed fiber scanning endoscope for volumetric multi-megahertz optical coherence tomography“ (https://www.osapublishing.org/ol/abstract.cfm?uri=ol-43-18-4386) for its excellent scientific quality and relevance (Editors’ Pick). The article describes a new flexible endoscope which achieves volumetric imaging at 6 Hz with 10 µm resolution. This is an important step towards endoscopic use of optical coherence tomography (OCT ) during endoscopic procedures. Aim of this development, which was partly by the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), is besides others the imaging of the lower airways.
